From old lace to modern hairdressing
Local headdress has attracted a great deal of interest from ethnologists and tourists alike. The bigouden of Brittany is no exception. The tall lace bonnet has evolved from the 19th century reaching up to 15 inches in height and 5 inches at its base. Today, the local wearers bear the same name and parade proudly through the streets on festival days. Perhaps this unusual headdress has given its name to the modern day hair roller aptly named “bigoudi”.
