Moderate

Moderate walks are likely to take 5 to 7 hours per day. The inclines are more noticeable, with terrain being generally more rolling. You will walk up to 14 miles per day, and it is sometimes rough underfoot with some steep ascents that present a change in altitude of up to 750m.

Challenging

Challenging routes offer between 6 to 8 hours of walking per day and may require a little more stamina and experience to accomplish. Distances reach up to 16 miles in a day and changes in altitude can be up to 1000m. These treks, in particular those in the Pyrenees, inevitably require a head for heights, good map-reading skills and a sense of adventure. In remote areas there are occasional nights in more basic accommodation.
