Hôtel de Bretagne Pont l'Abbé

Hôtel de Bretagne

This is a friendly, small hotel situated in the town centre of Pont L’Abbé, fronting onto the market square. The town is small and typical of a country town in this part of Cornouaille, with the usual shops around the market square and the hotel fits right in. Pont L’Abbé is a small inland town in the Bigouden Country area of Cornouaille in Brittany. The department is Finistère - literally end of the land - and the sea exerts a strong influence over the area where local ports land some of France’s largest catches. Hôtel de Bretagne has been run by Marie-José and Marcel Cossec for many years and they have a strong reputation for hospitality and good local cuisine. The hotel is not large, with just 18 rooms, but they are all comfortably equipped in a homely style and all have TVs. There is car parking for those who choose to drive themselves and you will be returned here to collect your car after your last night of the holiday. The hotel has a very nice dining room where you will take your evening meal. It is bright and airy thanks to the glass doors to the outside terrace. Meals are often taken outside on warm summer’s evenings, but if seated inside, the atmosphere is cosy and intimate and the service is very unobtrusive, so you can relax and enjoy your food and wine. You will take breakfast in a small side room off the main hallway. The room has a very traditional Breton feel, rather like a family dining room. You will be served a fairly simple breakfast, but with everything necessary to start you off on your first day’s walking.

Chef Bertrand Cossec has now taken over from his father Marcel and his brother Bruno looks after the dining room. They offer a varied menu, but seafood and fish dishes feature strongly with freshly caught ingredients from the nearby fishing ports bringing in catches daily. They are also keen to offer locally sourced poultry, game and red meat as well as local vegetables. You will be offered a good choice from one of their set menus, all cooked and presented to a very high standard. Bruno Cossec is keen to guide diners in their choice of food and wine, giving gentle helpful advice. The hotel offers a range of local wines as well as better known French wines so you will find you have a good selection to choose from. Thereafter, you will find the courteous service unobtrusive, enabling you to relax and enjoy your meal in the very pleasant surroundings.
