Walk through beautiful undulating countryside and past pretty medieval villages as you follow the clear waters of the little River Dronne from Bourdeilles to Champagnac. Two nights staying in the “Venice of Périgord”, Brantôme, allows visits to the ancient abbey of Charlemagne and perhaps an afternoon canoeing. A château hotel, an elegant riverside manoir and an old water mill provide characterful accomodation and gourmet dining.

    Summary

    Walk down to the pretty medieval village of Bourdeilles on the banks of the Dronne with it’s commanding castle built for Catherine de Medicis. After lunch, return along the riverside under impressive overhanging rocks, before climbing gently back to the hotel.

    Biras to Brantômeday 3

    Summary

    A cross-country walk with lovely views, through forests and open farmland, to the bustling little town of Brantôme, set on an island in the River Dronne. Your town-centre hotel overlooks one of the main bridges and has a large terrace by the river. The fine restaurant is highly regarded by the locals.
