One of the most challenging stages because of the distances covered, but the most rewarding. An exhilarating walk through some amazing scenery, and in Hiribiria a monument marks the spot where the pilgrims' routes from Paris, Vezelay and Le Puy converge en route to Spain.

    Arrive at Aire sur l’Adour, an ancient, pretty riverside town where you can see the cathedral of Saint-Jean Baptiste.

    Today’s walk starts with some flat track, then goes uphill to the hamlet of Begorre, gradually descending to cross the bridge to the Eglise de Sensacq.

    A peaceful walk passes by ancient château before reaching the little town of Saint Palais.

    Larceveau to St Jean day 9


    The final stretch is a relatively easy walk to St-Jean. Enter through the Porte Sainte-Jacques that has welcomed countless travellers throughout the ages.

    St Jean Pied de Port marks the end of this classic trek. From here, pilgrims head south to Roncesvalles and across the Spanish border.
