Need a breath of sea air? This cycle trip has all you are looking for: adventure, the open sea, and a sense of exhilaration. Starting in the historic harbour town of La Rochelle, you will follow the Vélodyssée cycle route along the Atlantic coastline, through pine forests and marshlands. Visit the city of Rochefort, famous for its 'Corderie Royale', the citadelle in Brouage, the oyster farms in La Tremblade and the seaside resort of Royan. A short ferry ride will take you over to Le Verdon and on to the Médoc peninsular, where you will continue your ride through the vineyards and on to Bordeaux.

Arrive La Rochelle day 1
Arrival La Rochelle. This historic city is very well equipped with cycling paths, which makes it perfect getting around by bike.

La Rochelle to Rochefort-sure-Mer day 2
Ride on the cycle path along the coastline through small seaside villages like Les Boucholeurs or Châtelaillon-Plage and through the wetlands, home to a great variety of birds such as storks and herons.

Discover Brouage citadel built by the French engineer Vauban and bike through the oyster farms along the coast of Marennes along to La Tremblade.

You ride today on small country roads in the heart of the most prestigious vineyards like Saint-Esthèphe, Lafite-Rothschild, Mouton-Rothschild among others. Your route passes Pauillac at the edge of the estuary, where you can see the square fishing nets typical to this region, and ends in Margaux, in the heart of the prestigious Medoc region.
