So here are some suggestions for some of our favourite regions to walk or cycle around, together with one of our holidays to follow suit. We’ve chosen these holidays to suit all levels of fitness, if you’re out of the habit, then we know you don’t want to overdo it.
Cycling in Aquitaine
Cycling along the Aquitaine coast is surely one of the best cycling locations in all of France. Following la Vélodysée – or the Atlantic Coast cycle route you will not only cycle alongside lapping waves and golden sandy beaches, but you will find all a cyclist needs. Waymaked routes, plenty of repair shops and food and drink outlets who provide secure bike storage. You’ll alternate between coast and luscious forest, pass through sleepy seaside villages and tempting vineyards. A truly unforgettable experience.
We’ve recently extended our holidays following the Velodyssey route, why don’t you try our new Nantes to La Rochelle cycling tour?

Walking in Provence
Known for its laid-back way of life, Provence is best explored at slow pace, so strolling along at your own speed is ideal for taking in the scene around you.
The countryside is stunning, you can see why it inspired so many famous artists including Van Gogh and Matisse. Lavender fields, sleepy villages and hilltop towns are all synonymous with Provence, with lots to see from medieval structures to experiencing the way of the locals, watching them chew the fat sitting at a café, or playing pétanque in the village square.
We’ve just developed a luxury walking holiday in the Luberon, inspired by Peter Mayle’s books, you’ll stay in prestigious accommodation, and be amazed by fantastic views of the Alps and the Mediterranean Sea all in the same holiday!

- Beautiful hilltop villages of the Luberon; Gordes, Goult, Lacoste and Bonnieux
- Medieval Avignon capital of ‘Cotes du Rhone Wines’
- Recommended start day Sunday to enjoy the fabulous Tuesday market in Gordes
Walking or cycling in the Charente
Away from the hustle and bustle, there’s a lovely region known as the Pays de Gatine, idyllic countryside that makes you feel as though you are miles away from anywhere. Your nearest neighbours are the birds in the trees and fluttering butterflies in the meadows.
We offer a single-centre holiday based at le Moulin de Chemin in a restored mill house which dates before 1650, remote and peaceful.
